Cat and Kitten neutering…

Do you have a stray cat that keeps having kittens or that keeps spraying around your home?

Has your once cute and cuddly kitten turned into a boisterous and occasionally aggressive young adult?

Is your cat urinating and defecating all round the house for no reason?

It is very important to have all cats and kitten neutered or spayed not only to prevent unwanted litters of kittens but also to prevent unwanted behaviour.

What does neutering/ spaying help prevent?

Unwanted litters of kittens. The gestation period for a cat is around 63 days and there can be eight or more kittens in each litter!

Females will ‘call’ when in heat and often entire males will come to the house and spray to mark their territory.

Unwanted behaviour such as spraying to mark territory, marking the territory with faeces (inside the house and outside) and occasionally aggressive behaviour towards the owners.

Male kittens can be neutered from 5 months of age and females can be spayed from 6 months of age. However, it is important to keep a close eye on your young cat as some can mature faster than others and may need to be neutered/ spayed earlier than normal.

If you got a kitten at the start of kitten season (march/april) it will be due to be neutered/ spayed now.

How do you get a voucher?

If you get your kitten from Assisi we will give you a voucher to cover the charity cost of spaying or neutering. This is currently £30 for males and £35 for females. Any extra charges by your chosen vet will be incurred by you. Adult cats will have already been spayed or neutered by us.

What if I didn’t get my kitten from Assisi?

There are national neutering schemes available, please call us on 02891 812622 for information.

If you have a cat or kittens that needs to be re-homed please ring the sanctuary and ask to be put through to the cattery or kitten unit.
